Frequently asked questions
Are the pieces made by hand?
Yes. All pieces are wheel-thrown and shaped by hand in my workshop. Slight variations may appear: they are part of each object's unique character.
Is each piece unique?
Yes. Even when I work in small batches, no piece is strictly identical. Differences in shape, texture or glazing are natural and reflect the handcraft work.
Can I order a custom piece?
Yes, I can create custom orders according to the desired shapes and dimensions. We first discuss to define the project, then I provide a quote.
What are the lead times for an order?
Handcraft production takes time: throwing, drying, glazing and firing. Once the quote is accepted, the lead time is generally around 3 months before availability.
How are the firings done?
Firings are currently done with gas in Didier Descamps' workshop, in a reduction atmosphere. This process reduces the oxygen supply in the kiln: the flame then seeks oxygen from the oxides in the glazes and clay, which changes the colours and creates natural variations.
Later this year, I will also offer firings in an electric kiln in an oxidation atmosphere, providing a different and complementary colour palette.
Are the pieces dishwasher safe?
High-temperature fired stoneware is suitable for everyday use. The dishwasher is possible, although hand washing is recommended to preserve the appearance over time.
Are the pieces microwave safe?
Yes for most stoneware pieces, unless otherwise indicated. However, it is advisable to avoid significant thermal shocks.
Are the pieces food safe?
Yes. The glazes used are suitable for food contact and the pieces are fired at high temperature to ensure their durability.
Do you offer online sales?
No. The website showcases my work but does not offer direct sales. Orders are made by contact, depending on available pieces or on request.
How can I receive a piece?
Pieces can be handed over in person or sent by parcel. The arrangements are defined during the discussion and quote.
